Graffiti Removal Project | City of Westminster

Project Overview

A commercial premises in Soho occupied by The Monogamy Experiment required specialist graffiti removal following a targeted vandalism incident affecting several exterior surfaces. The damage included conventional graffiti as well as acid etched markings, creating a highly visible and inappropriate appearance in one of London’s busiest areas.

As a media company operating in the heart of the West End, the client needed a comprehensive restoration that addressed all surface types while maintaining public access and avoiding disruption in a densely populated, high footfall location.

Location

  • Area: Soho, London
  • Borough: City of Westminster
  • Property Type: Commercial
  • Client: The Monogamy Experiment
  • Date Completed: August 2025

The Challenge

The graffiti was spread across multiple surface types, including painted walls, architectural details, and glass panels that had been damaged with acid. Each surface required a different removal approach, particularly the etched glass where incorrect treatment could have resulted in permanent distortion.

Several affected areas were positioned above ground level, requiring working at height on a narrow Soho street with constant pedestrian movement. The works needed to be carried out discreetly, safely, and efficiently to avoid obstructing the pavement or nearby businesses.

Given the visibility of the location and the nature of the graffiti, speed of response and quality of finish were both critical.

Initial Assessment

Our team conducted a detailed on site assessment to identify the materials involved and the extent of both surface level graffiti and acid etching. Test patches were carried out where appropriate to confirm the safest method of removal for each surface.

Access planning formed a key part of the assessment, with careful consideration given to equipment positioning, pedestrian flow, and how elevated areas could be treated without creating hazards in a busy West End environment.

Our Approach

A combined graffiti removal and glass restoration strategy was developed to address all damage in a single coordinated programme. Standard graffiti was removed using surface appropriate methods, while acid etched graffiti was treated using specialist glass polishing and restoration techniques.

Working at height was managed using controlled access equipment, with temporary exclusion zones established only where absolutely necessary. This ensured public access was maintained throughout the works.

The Removal Process

Step 1: Site setup, safety controls, and preparation of access equipment

Step 2: Removal of graffiti from painted and masonry surfaces using controlled methods

Step 3: Acid etched graffiti removal from glass through precision polishing and refinement

Step 4: Treatment of elevated areas and blending of all cleaned surfaces for a consistent finish

Step 5: Final inspection to ensure no residue, shadowing, or visual inconsistencies remained

Results

All graffiti and acid etched damage was successfully removed, restoring the exterior of the premises to a clean and professional standard. The glass regained clarity without the need for replacement, and all other surfaces were left free from staining or damage.

Despite the challenges of the location, the work was completed efficiently with minimal disruption to the public and neighbouring businesses.
