Project Overview
A hotel property in Aldgate East required an urgent graffiti removal response following a widespread vandalism incident affecting several exterior surfaces. The damage was highly visible and included both standard graffiti and acid etched markings at the main entrance.
Given the location, public access, and the nature of the business, the client requested an emergency call out to restore the building quickly and prevent prolonged exposure to guests and passers by.
Location
- Area: Aldgate East, London
- Borough: London Borough of Tower Hamlets
- Property Type: Commercial
- Client: Ibis Hotels
- Date Completed: May 2025
The Challenge
The vandalism was spread across multiple surface types, including metal emergency exit doors, painted walls, polished stone, and acid etched graffiti at the hotel entrance glazing. Each surface required a different removal method to avoid permanent damage or uneven results.
The property remained fully operational, with continuous guest movement and public access. The work needed to be completed rapidly, safely, and with minimal visual disruption.
Initial Assessment
Upon arrival, our technicians carried out a rapid but thorough assessment of each affected area. The materials, graffiti types, and severity of damage were logged to determine the correct treatment for every surface.
Special attention was given to the acid etched graffiti at the entrance, as inappropriate methods could have worsened the glass damage or required costly replacement.
Our Approach
A coordinated emergency graffiti removal strategy was implemented, combining specialist treatments for metal, masonry, polished stone, and glass restoration techniques for the etched entrance area.
The works were carefully sequenced to maintain safe access routes, with protective measures in place to ensure guests and staff were not exposed to risk during the removal process.
The Removal Process
Step 1: Immediate site preparation and protection of high traffic areas
Step 2: Targeted graffiti removal from metal doors and wall surfaces
Step 3: Specialist cleaning of polished stone to avoid dulling or staining
Step 4: Acid etched graffiti removal and restoration of entrance glazing
Results
All graffiti was successfully removed from the affected areas, restoring the exterior of the hotel to a clean, professional standard. The acid etched graffiti at the entrance was reduced and removed without the need for glass replacement.
The emergency response allowed the property to continue operating normally, with no long term damage to the building fabric.
Before and After
Before: Graffiti across metal doors, walls, stone surfaces and etched entrance glass
After: All surfaces restored with original finishes preserved

Client Outcome
Ibis Hotels were able to resolve a potentially reputational issue quickly and discreetly. The fast turnaround reduced guest exposure to vandalism and prevented further escalation or repeat attacks.
